AmCham Board Priorities: Josef Svejda, onsemi and semiconductor technology
Semiconductors may be the single most essential component of modern business.
Building a national capability in this technology, thus, is a very good way to create stability in a global economy that is increasingly uncertain.
Czechia has a good foundation to build that capability: onsemi.
Full capabilities include technical schools and universities that educate students in the science of semiconductors, public research teams that push scientific knowledge further, supply chains that provide cutting technology for developing and producing semiconductors, and start-ups that fill interesting niches that are created by new science and expanding commercial opportunities. And let's not forget the Czech National Semiconductor Cluster, which brings together the leading Czech academic and industrial members of the semiconductor value chain. But what gives that community durability is a company that has commercialized current technology and has invested in commercializing new technology globally. That generates the cash that feeds the cycle of innovation.
That Is why we encouraged the Czech government to place a Big Bet on expanding onsemi’s research and production capacity in Czechia. And why we are glad to have Josef Svejda on our Board of Directors. Josef will be working with other board members to build the existing base of advanced technologies developed in Czechia into a critical mass that will consistently create new technologies, new fields of research and study, and new space for start-ups to grow.
“Chips drive progress,” Josef says. “Investing in semiconductor’s powers tomorrow’s tech.”
